The typical water softener is a mechanical appliance that's plumbed into your home's water supply system. All water softeners use the same operating principle: They trade the minerals for something else, in most cases sodium.

The process is called ion exchange. The heart of a water softener is a mineral tank. It's filled with small polystyrene beads, also known as resin or zeolite. The beads carry a negative charge.

In normal operation, hard water moves into the mineral tank and the calcium and magnesium ions move to the beads, replacing sodium ions. The sodium ions go into the water. Once the beads are saturated with calcium and magnesium, the unit enters a 3-phase regenerating cycle.
  1. First, the backwash phase reverses water flow to flush dirt out of the tank.
  2. In the recharge phase, the concentrated sodium-rich salt solution is carried from the brine tank through the mineral tank. The sodium collects on the beads, replacing the calcium and magnesium, which go down the drain.
  3.  Once this phase is over, the mineral tank is flushed of excess brine and the brine tank is refilled.
Most popular water softeners have an automatic regenerating system. The most basic type has an electric timer that flushes and recharges the system on a regular schedule. During recharging, soft water is not available. This however, does not effect the running water inside the home, essentially making it unnoticeable.

Water softeners are usually kept inside the garage, but can also be installed on the side of the house. Having a water softener will alleviate your worries about having to store water for hurricane season, since water will always be running in your house. Some of the major benefits of having a water softener at home are:

  • Prevents dry skin
  • Helps/alleviates eczema, psoriasis, and hives
  • prevents clogging and rusting of pipes
  • Less frizzy and smoother hair
  • Prevents shower scum
  • Reduction in house cleaning and better usage of cleaning products

Reverse Osmosis (RO) functions by the use of a high pressure pump to increase the pressure on the salt side of the RO and force the water across the semi-permeable RO membrane, that leaves about 95% to 99% of dissolved salts behind in the disposable reject stream.

As shown above, an RO uses a partially permeable membrane to remove ions, molecules, and other larger particles from drinking water.

Need a reason to get an RO? We'll give you SEVEN...

  1. No More Contaminants: The main function of a Reverse Osmosis is its ability to remove particles and impurities found in city water. These impurities can be, and are not limited to, chemicals such as lead and arsenic and possible microscopic parasites. The RO helps prevent harmful chemicals from causing any harmful illnesses. If you are worried that your water may be high in concentration of any harmful chemicals, a reverse osmosis may be the answer for you.
  2. Better Tasting Water: The Reverse Osmosis system cleanse and decontaminates the water making it free of any impurities and chemicals, thus taking away all bad and slimy tastes. The RO takes away the chemicals used to cleanse the city water before being pumped into buildings.
  3. Different Levels Of Purification:  There are up to seven stages in an RO, each stage stage being more rigorous than the last, filtering out everything as much as possible. Every RO is different because it can be customized to meet the customers needs, for instance the addition of an Alkaline filter. Each level of purification has its own process making it unique and essential.
  4. Space Saving: The Reverse Osmosis will be unnoticeable to your house guests when placed under the kitchen sink, making it convenient and extending its warranty.
  5. Usage Of Low Amount Of Energy: This system is ideal for those who want to use as little energy as possible.
  6. Low Maintenance: Filter replacements are one of the few things you have to do, this usually happens every 6 months.
  7. $$$ Savings $$$: You will save tons of money having this system in your kitchen, you will no longer have to buy any water bottles. The system will be conveniently located in your kitchen, giving you fresh pure water for drinking and cooking.
Still not convinced? Many RO systems can fit in your budget! That's right you could have purified drinking water in no time, call or visit us today to get a quote. We cater to everyone's budget call, visit, or email us to schedule a home visit to find the perfect system for you!
