Alkaline Water; everything you need to know

Alkaline Water is water that has a higher pH level than regular purified water.

The pH scale ranges from 1 to 13, 1 being very acidic and 13 being very alkaline. Purified water lies at about 7.7 pH and alkaline water starts at a pH of 8.5 and goes up to 10.5.

The difference between alkaline water and purified water is not only the pH level, but the contents within them. While purified water is more neutral, alkaline water has an increasing amount of minerals that can only be found at this pH level.

Alkaline water also acts as antioxidant because of its ability to act as a negative Oxidation Reduction Potential, the more negative the ORP the more anti-oxidizing it will be. This in turn neutralizes the acidic levels in your body, giving you a more balanced system.

Various studies have shown that alkaline water has been beneficial for those who have acid reflux, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

There are other forms in which alkaline water water is used, and not purified water...

  • colon cleansing properties
  • Strenuous workouts
  • Anti-aging properties
  • Immune system support
  • Weight loss
  • Hydrating, skin health, and various detoxifying properties
  • Cancer resistance*

As with anything you give to your body, remember to exercise caution, drinking too much alkaline water can have the opposite effect on your body. Drinking an excessive amount of alkaline water can lead you to vomit, have nausea, and even gastrointestinal issues.

Drinking a glass to 8 glasses a day won't hurt you, but drinking over 12 glasses a day everyday may lead to some side effects.
